On 14th November 2017 10-11 RB visited St. Hugh’s Church to participate in a baptism. Rev’d Julia Clark and Linda opened the Church for us and led us in a baptism of our baby. Anna chose the name ‘Hans’ for our baby.
Can you guess which film that name might have come from? We explored different artefacts related to baptism including a lit candle, the oil to make the sign of the cross and of course the font. We enjoyed exploring the water in the font and helped to say prayers to bless the water and pray for the baby and family. We listened and watched really carefully and told Julia and Linda what we already knew about baptism. Once the baptism was over Julia gave baby Hans a special heart which we hung on their baptism tree. Alex looked really carefully at all of the different hearts left on the tree for the babies that have already been baptised at St. Hugh’s Church. After a drink and a biscuit (our Christening party!) we were allowed to explore the Church independently. Chloe, Alex and Ellie-Mae enjoyed walking through the Church to look at the Altar. Jay and Alex were supported to go into the Pulpit to see the Church from a different perspective. We were all very respectful in Church and hope we can visit again soon!
