St Hugh’s Governor Roles

In line with current recommendations, the Governing Body comprises four types of Governors:

Local Authority Governors
Parent Governors
Community Governors
School Based Governors (Head Teacher, Teaching staff representative, Non-Teaching staff representative)
From among these Governor types, the Governors select individuals to specified roles. In addition, Governors volunteer to be the Link Governor for a range of specialist areas within school.

Chair
Vice-Chair
Sub-Committee Chairs
Link Governors in the following areas:- Careers, Safeguarding, Governor training, Staff and Pupil Wellbeing, Curriculum, Health and Safety, Attendance and Inclusion
Buddy Governors (mentor support for each other)
All Governors serve for a term of four years. Governors volunteer annually to serve on a specific Committee.

In deciding which Governors will sit on each committee the full Governing Body are mindful of needing a relatively equal number of Governors on each committee and of relative skills and experiences of Governors. Governors in specific roles serve in this capacity for a period of one year.

Governor roles are reviewed each year and re-assigned where necessary or appropriate. The Chair, Vice Chair and Committee Chair roles are elected roles.

Governors termly update

Further to our last newsletter in the Autumn term, we have been busy visiting school. Our link Governors have been ensuring school are meeting their statutory safeguarding obligations. We have met our student council and are following up student survey results. We are ensuring attendance levels are appropriate and asking strategic questions. Please look out for more details in the summer edition.

We are pleased to update you that we have been successful in recruiting two new Parent Governors and will be sharing the names with you once they have gone through all the necessary checks.

We are excited for them to join us and support our new school vision and mission statement, please see below.
